Yes You, Wedding Guests - Get on the Dance Floor

Nothing beats a reception with a great dance party - it's entertaining for everyone, whether you’re on the floor or watching from the sidelines. Being an enthusiastic party-goer is a great way to show your love, support and celebration of the newlyweds and extended families. And dancing together is an innate, timeless way that communities bond.

Most of my students want to feel less self-conscious on the dance floor, so I’m usually helping them look and feel graceful and less awkward. (see my December post about "Party Dancing Do's & Don'ts.") However now, I have some advice that may sound contrary to my usual here:

THOU SHALT CELEBRATE AND EMBRACE YOUR GOOFBALL on the wedding reception dance floor!

If there's anywhere on the planet that dancing silly is welcome, 100% that's at weddings! Whoever can make the biggest caricature of party moves WINS. Kids especially love it and will join you! Elders will compliment you.
(And do go offer your hand and dance with/around someone sitting who may not be able to stand - helping everyone feel included and participatory in the celebration is the best gift.)

The older I get, the more I appreciate the fleeting nature of life, and the miracle of having a body. I'll say again - this is the only body we've got in this lifetime, please use it as designed: for our joy, our creativity, our connection to others. Yeehaw, let's dance!
