SalsaKat: Dance Instructor Dancer Salsera

It's my delight to share the joy of dance with you!

I believe dancing is an innate human expression: creative movement makes us happier, healthier, more alive — which creates a more joyful, balanced & uplifting world for all.

Since 2008, Kat has been teaching Latin, Wedding, Ballroom, and club dancing. She began her teaching journey at Cheryl Burke Studio (of Dancing with the Stars) and graduated from the Ballroom Dance Teachers College in San Francisco. She continues to collaborate behind the scenes with the program’s founder, Diane Jarmolow.

Her professional dance journey includes performing with 20-time World Salsa Champion Liz Lira and serving as a company member with RicaSalsa San Francisco. With RicaSalsa, she competed and won the World Latin Dance Cup Team Championship and the San Francisco International Salsa Congress Team Championship.

Kat has studied and performed a diverse range of dance styles, including Salsa, Swing, Ballroom, Brazilian Samba, Jazz, Bellydance, Burlesque, and Gogo, at hundreds of events such as Margaret Cho’s Sensuous Woman, the DeYoung Museum of Art, the Great American Music Hall, and San Francisco Pride. Her corporate and private engagements include performances for LinkedIn, Docusign, and Steve Wozniak. She was also a resident dancer at Temple and Ruby Skye, two of San Francisco’s premier nightclubs.

Growing up she trained in ballet, tap and jazz, and had a particular affinity for rhythm as a teen percussionist. She fell in love with partner dancing in college, competing as an amateur in Ballroom & Latin before ultimately discovering club Latin and Salsa, her favorite styles. She is inspired by the improvisation, percussion-heavy, multi-instrumented music, body isolations and ultra-feminine styling. The cultural richness, and being a living, thriving global art form.

A healer at heart, Kat also holds professional credentials in bodywork (CMT) and energy healing, and maintains personal practices in yoga, qigong, and meditation. She received her Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from The School of the Art Institute of Chicago.
